Reliability and Availability Issues In Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) (Position paper)
نویسندگان
چکیده
Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) is one of the emerging standards for distributed objects. Before DCOM can be used to build mission-critical applications, the reliability and availability issues must be addressed. In this position paper, we outline the current research directions of the InterCOM project, which exploits the dynamic behavior, the extensible architecture, and the component software model of DCOM to provide faulttolerance capabilities to distributed applications.

Agent-Oriented Material Flow Control System Based on DCOM
This paper reports on the design and realization of an agent-oriented control system dedicated for material flow systems. The implementation is based on DCOM (Distributed Component Object Model). Regarding the increasing availability, performance and acceptance of distributed object-oriented systems as well as the growing number of agent-oriented software it is natural to adapt and use the capa...
متن کاملObject Oriented GroupWare using the Ensemble System
Cornell University has developed a group communications and membership management tool, called the Ensemble system, which provides the basis for introducing guarantees such as reliability, high availability, fault-tolerance, consistency, security and real-time responsiveness into applications that run on clustered parallel computers or high speed networks. Ensemble tools can be used to build ne...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis and Tuning of Distributed Objects
In response to major trends in the telecommunications market today and under influence of the emerging distributed computing technology the telecommunications industry is embracing distributed object platforms as a means enabling the successful participation in the open global services market of the foreseen era with new and advanced service offerings under increasing competition in a multi-ven...
متن کاملComponent-Based Software Engineering for Resource-Constraint Systems: What are the Needs?
This position paper summarizes the most important problems that must be solved in order to establish a Component-Based Software Engineering (CBSE) discipline for resource-constraint systems. Resource-constraints are especially relevant for embedded systems (e.g. telecommunication systems and many modern consumer products), real-time systems and dependable safetycritical systems, but can be enco...
متن کاملDIF8901 Object-Oriented Systems A Comparison of Distributed Object Technologies
This essay compares the popular distributed object models/middleware standards; CORBA, DCOM and Java/RMI. These models are to a certain degree competing and have strengths and weaknesses with respect to portability, programming language and hardware support, ease of use and availability. The models are all promoting reuse through component interfaces and distributed object services. All three s...
